Last Sat. I was taking some friends out for their first time to try for the Kokanee at Lake Merwin. Sooo I had the DR's in the water with the ball 5' below the surface, and I was rigging up a pole when she asked "Are those fish Kokanee??
OK, What fish??? I took a look over the side and 3 nice kok's are following the Verticle Flashers and comming up to give them a bump! This was 2-3' from the side of the boat going at 1.5 mph!!! Triple WOW! tooexcited

The Book says that Kokanee are boat shy and I've never seen this before, have any of you?

Some very happy Kokanee newbe's went home that day!

Very cool.Crazy they would come that close to the motor. We've had a few fish follow a hooked fish within 15-20' of the boat. Hoping to get out Tuesday. Still lots of springers to come but the river is still on the rise. Time for some Merwin chromers.101chromefish101

101goodpost101That is strange. Usually when they get close to the boat, motor, or or net they go crazy (of course that may be due to the hook embedded in their jaw.) It would be interesting to see what goes on at depth with those flashers. I wonder if they were bumping them out of curiosity or anger?

Kokonuts,
It's not uncommon for the juveniles to be near the top and curious. I had a few within 3-5' of my boat Monday right on the surface who swam up to tail the dodger as I let line out. At times these are the fish that will also strike when we're reeling in to check bait.

I admit though, each time they flash that close there's an automoatic "what was that" response. 101saveme101
