I'm in the market for 1 or 2 drift socks for my 18' fiberglass open center console. I'm not sure what size to buy. 24" to 30" seems feasible, but am inexperienced on this size of boat. I deal with wind speeds of 15 to 20 mph. Usually trolling for Trout or Kokanee on large lakes.

Any tips?

I'd have to measure mine to be sure but I'm thinking that they are about 24" and they work great on a 17' Whaler Montauk. We do keep two socks, use one if the wind isn't bad and two when the wind starts to pick up a little more. Anything more than about 20mph winds and I'm ready to shore up until the wind dies back down so I can't say how well they would work in real bad winds.

I use two 28" for my 21' lund. I tie them off the front for boat control when the wind gets over 15-20 mph. It works great.

My socks drift around on me all the time. laugh hyst They usually drift from the washing machine to who knows where. Now, 24 inch socks would make it much harder for them to get lost. 101bananna101
