Typically I use the smaller dodgers and sidekicks early in the season because I'm fishing relatively shallow. However, this year there has been a lot of run off and the lakes are a little on the milky side. Do you think I should go up to the 5.5" dodgers even though I'm shallow or stick with the smaller size?

For more flash and vibration you might even consider running a small set of gang trolls to get their attention. I normally wouldn't recommend that, but since the water clarity is an issue it might be worth looking into.

Dave, I run a lot of mid-sized dodgers all year long no matter the depth. I used them a lot and even the 8 inch sling blades at Flaming Gorge last year when the water clarity was terrible and did well. Basically, what I am saying is, "Go for it!" :)

I'm with ll kaidoy ll, go for it. From what I have seen of some of your arsenal, you don't lack any enticers. The vibration will definately get the attention of these water warriors and the investigation process begins. I always have at least 2 tackle bags on board even if I don't get around to using everthing. Water clarity is a key element and I think as previosly discussed about florescent colors, that will also be the key to open the front door. Here in a couple of weeks, I will be heading off to the Gorge to kick off my Koke season. Sometimes at the beginning its hard to choose the combos you want to try first with so much to pick from. I have rehearsed in my mind about the different rigs I'm going to use prior to going fishing and those ideas always gets tossed out once I get waterborn. So I impatiently wait to get to the lake and see what I'm facing. Like a mood thing.

Well, I threw everything I had at them yesterday for 2 fish, 1 koke and 1 crappie. The water was pea soup green with algae/plankton bloom. I guess it is still a couple weeks too early. I knew it would be slow, I was just hoping it wasn't that slow.

Dave, On BFT we are getting reports of people trolling the bottoms and doing well for early season Kokes. Now I know this goes against the understanding of light penetration and plankton growth in relationship to sunlight penetration but you might give it a try!
