I am in the market for a fish finder that will fit on my 14 foot smokercraft and later can be put on a bigger boat. My price range is about 500 dollars and don't want to go much past that. any help would be great.

Check Cabelas right now. They have some sales on both Lowrance and Humminbird units that were retailing for $100 more than your budget but are now right at your budget.

FF

I found a garmin 536S new on E-Bay for $499 and an Airmar P66 w/speed and temp transducer for less than $100, so I have what I hope is a really good sonar and a chartplotter all in one. The water is still hard here so I have not had a chane to try it out. I am a little concerned about the size of the screen, but I'll see how it goes.

No doubt! Start thinking about another FF that is compatible with that Airmar and eventually use the first unit soley as a gps unit. You can probably get by with it for a season but think you'll grow to be dissatisfied soon.

I had a Garmin 540s for GPS and an Echo 550c for FF....the 550c you can get new all day for MSRP 449.00. I put a P66 on it, great setup, JUST sold it after upgrade to big Furuno.
