What is the maximun boat speed you can travel with your finder on and still locate fish? I start to pick up "noise" above 5mph, I get an accurate depth to bottom reading at any speed, but I lose accurate fish signal return above 5mph.

I can get up to about 8 mph before I start getting a lot of noise on mine. It will read sporatically, but I don't think it is very accurate. I think it depends on where the transducer is mounted in relation to your motor and the strength of your sonar signal.

I think you're correct. Water turbulance will effect the readings and most external transducers are mounted on the rear of the craft near the prop which generates a lot of turbulance as the speed is increased. I would guess through the hull transducer mounts at mid craft would give better fish returns at all speeds. But that's just a guess.
