Flaming Gorge Fish Derby 2014

Congrats to George Gates for catching the 1st place kokanee weighing in at 3.85 pounds with a length of 20 3/4 inches. George fished with Art Pearce from Kokanee Creek Tackle Company. Our team had a 3.25 that we caught just after George's catch and stayed in the running until late Sunday, finally getting bumped out 5th place with a nice 3.28 pounder. Way to go to all those fishing the derby, and thanks to Lucerne Marina and all the volunteers and sponsors. Hope Art reads this so he can add a picture or two of the winning koke. The fish we caught this weekend were mostly with a Joker splattered spinner behind a shattered dodger and an El Fuego squid behind a Matrix Dodger.

It was crazy how the bigger kokes just seemed to disappear. Biggest we caught in two days was just under 3 lbs. Those 2 1/2 pounders sure are hitting hard though!

Thanks Dave we caught the 3.85 early sat. morning at 17 ft. on a Harley spinner (orange & black) there was only George and myself so we could only turn in one more koke for the derby we thought that it might place but never would have guessed that it would take 1st we were in hunt mode for a four plus but it was not meant to be as things turned out we did catch a 3.68 but did not turn it in as it ended up I think that fish would have taken 3rd but the derby was good and the weather great Thanks to Lucerne and every one involved it was a good time Art
