Headed uplake to test the waters north of the border on Saturday. After the windy cold front that hit late last week, the water temps were back down in the upper 40s.

We marked a lot of fish early, but the bite actually picked up later in the morning around 11AM. We caught several kokes, bows, and lake trout pups. Fish were caught on a variety of tackle, but planer boards w/ 2 oz. snap weights far outweighed the catch from the down riggers. Most of the caught fish came from around 15 ft with a trolling speed of about 2.0 mph. Tackle included RMT dodgers in hyperplaid, fusion, and Bahama-mama followed by RMT squids in double-glow pink and pink cotton candy, Radical Glow tubes in radical red, and pink Wedding rings. Pink was obviously the consistent color.

All of the kokes were in the 15-17 inch size range, indicative of the abundant 3-year old age class in the reservoir this year (see pic).

Good fishing and hope it helps, Ryno

Thanks for the report Ryan. Great catch too. Even tho you're a borderjumper;)

I've gotta test all the water, right? I haven't been able to get into the kokes consistently down in the Canyon and so far vertically jigging has outperformed the trolling. In due time I suspect. It was cool to get up there and see what's going on though. The only problem is it leaves me wanting more!

I canceled my Gorge trip due to the wind forecast. Maybe it wasn't that bad. Anyway, nice report Ryan, short and informative as always. The planer board snap weight thing is a Great way to cover water. Not many guys have even heard of it. I have had guys take pictures of me running my big board !! It works great, and in the summer I can run small dipseys off it to get deeper.

Well it blew like no other on Friday. There was a wind warning all day and I heard about gusts up to 50 mph locally. Saturday morning was just cold, 25F in Dutch John, but it warmed up nicely and there was only the occasional breeze on the lake.

I know what you mean on the planers. I actually run in-line Offshores and Saturday we had a couple of boats stop and look at them going by. They are killer for any shallow fish and I don't leave home without them. Curious, how deep are you getting with your Dipsey's?

Ryan, I use the smallest mini-dipsey and it will run 18 to 20 feet depending on boat speed. It has no release on it so fighting fish can be a little tough. I fished Fontenelle res. here in WY on Sunday and we fished in mainly 10 feet of water. We caught 15 browns and rainbows and almost all of them came off the boards !! You just cant beat them for shallow water trolling.
