With fuel prices going throught he roof and no real relief in sight, do you feel it will limit your trips?? For me, it will probably limit my long distance trips, anything over 100 miles (1 way) or so. That still leaves me with several good lakes to fish, UVR, Melones, Stampede, Berryessa, etc... Also I'm not against posting on the Hitch Hikers board looking for anglers who want to split the cost. I will probably do more of this than any other year. It's also a great way to meet and fish with some "new blood" and you will almost always learn something new. So heads up all you "California Motherlode Kokeheads". I like to fish whenever I can so check out the HH board often. I might be looking for some company at anytime and often!!!!!!!

I'll feel your pain soon enough. As soon as the water here in Utah turns soft again, I'll be on the road feeling the pain for real. Fuel prices in Northern Utah are running ~$3.29/gal for unleaded regular and diesel is ~3.89/gal. These prices will have definite impact on travel this year. crymeariver

What are fuel prices in your neck of the woods? rolleyes

Diesel is getting near the $4.00 mark here. Part of the reason I'm getting set up for Kokes at GP. Less than a 30 mile trip. As popular as the Columbia is for salmon and sturgeon, I can't bring myself to spend the $, or spending half the day traveling instead of fishing.

I probably should have bought a smaller boat that our Ford ranger could handle, but it's hard to give the floor space of a 20 footer.

Regular unleaded is $4.00 a gal. here in the motherlode and going up almost every morning.

Gas is up to $3.70 here in western WA., these prices will def. limit trips to Neah Bay and Seiku for salt water salmon to only a couple, but we are planning a first time trip to Wallawa this June or early July, can't pass up the chance to catch the biggest Koke of our lives (no unrealistic hopes of record fish, just personal best), that said we'll prob. keep close to home with Lake Quinalt only 1+ 1/2 hrs. away and great fishing and camping there to boot.Fishing pressure is pretty much non-existent and they don't allow water-skiing or those damn jet skis! Hopefully the price of gas will at least keep some of those jerks off our favorite lakes a bit more. bob r

I use desiel and try to keep the tank full as much as possible. Whenever it gets down a 1/4 of a tank, I'll top off. With todays prices thats been hitting me up for $60 average. If I was filling from E, that equates to $175 approx. and rising. As soon as retirement hits, I'll save alot more. More for fishing locally. My truck is used everyday for work.

I am willing to share expenses with the Northern Utah folks to help with Fuel costs to still be able to go fish and not get gouged in the pocket book so bad. So, lets go do some fishing boystooexcited

I was wanting to go to the Gorge finally this year, and now with the gas prices I guess it will get cacelled again. Sucks, what the hell next? I'm with Mr D I have a lot of other lakes close but was looking forward to a big trip. It's not the season yet, but it doesn't sound like it is letting off either.

Gas was at 3.25 and it wen't down today to 3.22 in SC. 22 Gallons X .30 extra compared to last year = about 7 bucks a tank. If the fish are biting I'm going. I'll cut back on snacks and make my own samich if need be. Hthumbsup

Gas up another 3 cent's over night!!! This is getting way out of hand. Watch how slow the price goes back down when the "alleged crisis" is over. My guess is that BP, it's fat cats at the top and it's share holders will now be able to payback for all the clean up & damages much quicker this way. Stinking Thieves!!!!!!! IMO..........

I guess if I look for a silver lining, I've got enough other financial fires and taxes to pay that the cost of gas is actually effecting me very little. The downside is the last time gas was $5/gallon and my boat sat to save money, I got a laquered carburator in my kicker that cost me a good chunk of money to fix. So, a word to the wise, if you do end up fishing less, keep the stab-bil up and run the engine with the muffs every couple of weeks to keep the gas in the bowl fresh.

I'm going to stay longer. It costs too much to go home and go to work to make more money to buy more gas just to go back again.......

Excellent point! I do this myself. Staying a few days instead of one helps. Eat a lot of fish, catch & release, put a couple limits in the camper freezer...all good ideas to keep the fuel consumption down and the enjoyment up!

Full Monte, I too have a 15' Gregor. Great boat. I see you got a bigger boat. Don't be sellin' the Gregor, you'll miss it. Good luck with the new ride.....Salmurai

I drive a honda ruckus to work and back (moped, gets 100 mpg) and we just picked up a used ford focus that gets about 30 mpg on average. Also gonna stay at my home lake overnight more often and try to cut out the "just to get out trips" but I'll cut out other activities before my fishing takes a major hit :}

I will be cutting back on everything, but my fishing and you have to look at the good side of high gas prices. Not so many Jet skiers or ski boats... I can troll all day for about $5.00 my biggest cost is driving to the lake so I guess I'll have to stay a few more days than planned. Lucky Me... The only thing that would keep me off the lake and away from kokanee fishing is maybe death, and I'm not sure if that would even work because my family is supposed to put my ashes in a kokanee lake. It's kind of like telling a drug addict they can have drugs anymore.... You know I'm going to get my kokanee FIX no matter how high gas prices are...

I'll probably keep going regardless of the fuel costs. I didn't change much back in 08 when fuel was over $4/gal. Fortunately, my tub doesn't use "that" much fuel but getting her to the water is what costs. GP is 200 mile round trip. I'll likely not do other things however to make up for it. I'm sure I'll also be spending the entire weekend on the lake instead of just a day. Great thing about kokanee fishing is a guy can troll for a few days on 3 gallons of gas and you really don't have to even fire the big engine if you don't want to.

I also see the positive side of less people on the water. See you guys out there. 101cheers101

Fuel Costs

My plan this year is to spend at least two days on my favorite kok lake with what is happened with gas prices . I have had a friend build me two beds for my boat which work just great after removing the seats out . The wife and I will anchor in a quiet place & sleep on the water . I am really excited about trying this when the weather warms up .
