The Gorge is still fishing crazy good. Most of the males we got had their scales and little color though jaws with a bit of hook. Did best at 60 feet and on the slower side for the Gorge at 1.2 mph. Also had to go to a big O size dodger.
Any of you all ever get tired of the standard 2 hook rig for hoochies et al? I've gotten fed up with them for a variety of reasons, including that the standard Gamakatsu is so thin I think it tears out too easily or it is a royal pain to get out of the fish casing to much damage for any sort of reasonable release. Anyway, I found a box of #4 Mustads in my box, heavier and a bit longer shank than the Gamakatsus. I bent up the eye before snelling and pinched down the barb. They handled several large kokes without a loss, and they were so much easier to get out in the net with little or no damage to fish. If one wants to release, this would be the ticket.
Sorry you all couldn't make it to camp for dinner - grilled salmon and mango salsa, fruit salad and a roasted onion. Little chardonnay to wash it down.
It's a tough job, but somebodies got to do it.
