Pulled the 5th wheel up on Thursday afternoon and set it up for the year in the KOA decided to spend the night with the wife and do some fishing on Friday morning. Well the wife doesn't do early so it was 10 before we hit the water. Actually was a good choice, water was glass and temps hit mid 70s. Headed to wildhorse from lucerne and turned the bow back towards the pipe and put in lines. Had 2 koks before all 4 lines could be set. All in all we fished for about 4 hours, netted 22 and lost 6. most fish came frm 15 to 25 feet but did get the last 3 from 35 to 45 feet closer to the pipe. Used the new micro squids in pink and orange with same color tussami dodgers tipped with gulp maggots and garlic or herring pro cure. Had 5 doubles. could have probably been a better day but did not say on any fish when we found them because I was looking for larger fish for the derby in 2 weeks. Biggest for the day was 2.58. Good news is there are a lot of fish this year. Bad news is right now you have to catch a limit to make a dinner. Water tem went from 50.2 when we started and was 52.6 when we stopped. Looks like a great year when these little guys grow up by August and Sept.

It sounds like some fast fishing, but it looks like were not going to catch those big boys like we have the past few years, oh well it was a fun run!!!

Arrrg, looks like I'll be going through a lot of hooks this year. A couple years ago when it was like that, all those hyper 18" ers loved to roll up on the leader and break hooks trying to release them. Bring lots of tackle!!!

I have heard rumor that the Lucerne marina campground will not be open at all this year. Something about forest service contracts not being taken care of or something.

I know KFF member smoke on the water had a call about his spot and some cancelation. Hey Tom, if you read this, what was the skinny on that whole thing.

I talked to Lucerne after reading your comment Mark and the story they are telling me is that is hasn't opened yet because the contractor is still doing punch list items. I was told that the campground would almost assuredly be open by May 21st.

Hope that is the case. that would really hurt alot of folks if that is not open. I know that was the issue for Smoke on the water, he had planned to stay there for the tournry the 19th and 20th. he has to find anotehr place.

Thanks for the report Rob! Love to hear the success on LOTSA KOKES!

Now for the campground at Lucerne. All I can say is that this must be a government operation. They've spent two years working on the place and still say they can't open A-D loops. Like SuperD already said, the contractor is still clearing punch list items so they can pass the inspection. Now I know a little about government inspections and this is a prime example of how a government contract works. Obviously there is no one who has diciplined oversight on this contract so bend over Uncle Sam. The mild Winter this year should have caused few if any delays in the construction. Yeah, I don't know the facts but this contract has displaced many would-be campers these past two years. Based on what I was told last Fall, this campground will be really nice when all is said and done. Let's just hope the public shows the decency to take care of it.

Anyone who has made a reservation at Lucerne for the Derby more than likely has received notification from Raynette. If you have questions regarding your reservation in A-D loops, contact Raynette @ [email protected]. She is very prompt with her reply but remember, we all have to be patient, we're dealing with the government on this matter.

I want to leave you with this sincere wish, Best of Luck to all Derby contestants this year and remember to BE SAFE!
