well I couldn't stand it any longer, gettin the itch too bad.Drove down to Buckboard this morning, there is some open water at the end of the ramp. Saw some guys ice fishing further to the west back in the bay itself. Drove down to squaw hollow ok ( brinrgers ferry crossing ) anyway some open water at the ramp there as well. Continued on to anvil draw, hardly any open water there. Now further south of anvil a lot of open water back in the bays and out on the flats. There are bits and pieces of open water all over. Tried fishing a few of my ( secret spots ) only problem was there so secret the fish don't know about them, oh well it was a beautiful day to be out of the house. We are supposed to get a few real warm days, that and some wind don't think the ice will last much longer.

was wondering how it was looking up there.
Im ready to get out there and do some fishing. Just got my Buckboard Derby Entry mailed off today.

I like April to get on the Gorge waters. The bows are in wolf packs along the shorelines and koke hunting becomes lively. Should be ice free in most areas by that time.

I never have had much lucky catching good sized rainbows there, I need to learn what they like, pop gear gets plenty of smaller ones but not much on the nice fat ones

Trubbs, I had an older gentleman tell me years ago, there is not a self respecting rainbow in the lake that will let a popgear with a spinner and worm go past him. I use the big dave davies popgear ( gold and silver ) with a macs double whammy spinner(# 17002 )cut the leader in half on the spinner and a piece of crawler on each hook. I have used this all over the lake. It works very well north of buckboard in the spring. Have even picked some nice kokes with it in the same area around the middle to the end of may.

Hmm...
I usually drag a set of them with various wedding ring set ups, Wonder what they dont like of mine haha
maybe I need to drag faster and not keep with the same Koke speed

I have done very well on rainbows with jointed Rapalas in about the 3 to 4 inch range, with Cray Fish smelly jelly, rainbow and perch color. I think they will all work. I run them on the down rigger at 5 ft about 100 ft behind the boat. I troll the shore in about 7 to 20 feet of water. I also pickup browns and lakers. I have caught a few Kokes on rapalas? It is good fun and they run 16 to 24 inches. if you hit them keep pounding the spot. I am ready as soon as the ice is gone.

I don't this to be true, I heard some guys at work said they were fishing south buckboard from the bank and Killin the big rainbows with bait just 2 day ago. Just talked to propnut he said he fished with some guys at squaw hollow boat ramp, said the ice is out 25-30 ft.

Don't know this to be true, heard some guys at work talking 2 days ago, said they were killin the big bows on bait at south buck board from the bank.Just talked to Propnut he said he was down to the lake Friday at squaw hollow with a couple of friends says the ice is out about 25-30 ft.I am going to the ISE show for a couple of days, plan on hitting the lake Saturday, will post what I find out.

Oh fine D-weed, Go fishing Saturday and leave all your buddies at the show working hard.

Mark, To add a little salt to the wound I'm visiting the ISE for 1day and prepping for the big blue. Ice has broken up at Bear now and waiting for larger chucks to make the shoreline. 101ok101 Any day now. 101wave2101

I was down last Saturday. Fishing from the bank just north of the pipeline south of the ranch and there was still ice. There was open water from shore to about 100 yards then ice. Didn't see too much open water around. Maybe in another week I've will be north of buckboard. Caught 2 lakers on silver spoons. Nothing on bait.

Just got back from the lake caught 8 rainbows from the bank throwin lures. North of current creek there is still a lot of ice. South of current creek none. Just talked to my neighbor he drove down lost dog road says its still all froze in, which is north of current creek as well. Hope who ever went to the show had a good time, I know I did, ready to chase some silver bullets now.
