I had not planned to go kokanee fishing one last time, but Moknots called and asked if I would join him fishing Odell one last time. Normally, I would not have fished this late in the season, but after Team Kokanee Kid had a banner day last weekend I accepted the offer.

We got off to a slow start with a few minor bumps, but were on the lake and fishing about 9 am. It was cloudy most of the day with a steady wind that never really got out of hand. A few small bands of mist rolled over the hill during the day, but for the most part it was dry.

There were huge schools of fish scattered throughout the lake. The schools seem much larger than I remember earlier in the year. They were more reminiscent of the schools seen at LBC where they were stacked at times from 35 to 80 feet.

The bite was never red hot, but it was steady all day. We had a few triples and multiple doubles. The best trolling speed was 1.4 to 1.5 mph and the best depth was 80 to 65 feet. We ended up scratching out a limit.

Who would have figured that the end of October you could go to Odell and catch a limit of chrome bright kokanee. These fish were in beautiful shape and stuffed to the gills with daphnia. Next year’s class of kokanee looks very good. I think Odell is the only place with a premium fall kokanee fishery.

What a great way to end the kokanee season!

Nice Report Brian.... Aren't you glad you didn't fish for Mack's... Those kokanee are way better to eat...
