Hi folks,

New member but not new to fishing. Love fishing both fresh and salt for salmon, Interior BC fly fishing for rainbows and Brookies, and of course we have a few decent Kokanee lakes too. I'm a Moderator on a fishing forum in BC and I look forward to contributing here.

well, we use a variety, but from what I have learned is that the Kokanee fishery is not as highly evolved or serious up in BC. Like bass fishing, we enjoy it, but you folks to the South are really hardcore. This is one of the reasons I joined, I want to learn more as I have three lakes 10 minutes from the house that has a naturally occurring population of Kokanee. One of them, Wood Lake, has Kokanee up to 4 pounds so I hit that lake more.

Like Sockeye fishing in the chuck, we use a lot of flash, a light show if you will with short leaders that produce a lot of action on the bait/ lure. Some folks use 4 ounces of slip weight or lead core, but I like my Scotty down riggers. I'm thinking of going to hair-trigger releases as I've been using the larger ones that I have on hand for Chinook and Coho trolling. A couple of times I almost broke my slow action rod trying to get the mainline out of the clip with a small fish on that did not trigger a release. I was fishing deep that day and placed the line too far back in the clip I guess.

I've used small and large gang trolls, Kone Zone daisy chains, Hot Spot single flashers both small and large, even large spoons as a flasher. End presentation usually consists of multi colored wedding bands, Dick Nites, Kokanee Killers and other small spoons, and of course small pink squirts/ Hootchies. Sometimes I'll put on scent and other times go with Pro Cure fire corn, Gulp pink Maggots and sometimes real dew worms or maggots.

Willing to try anything as long as pink, red, orange or purple is one of the colors.

Try offshore releases. They are are color coded for the type of fishing you are doing. The yellow release is what alot uses since it the lightest to release. Some of the heavier gear thats attached to your rod will require a heavier set release.
