I was out fishing today and was just wondering, how often do change your setup. I would change it every time we went over a school of fish and didn't get any hook ups. My gear was never in the water for more than 15 minutes. Sometimes I would just change the color and other times I would just change the size. Did I not leave my gear in the water long enough, did I fail to find the right combo, or was it just another butt kicking at the Gorge.

For me, it kind of depends on the time of day. Early in the morning I change a lot trying to find something that is the hot set up for the day. If it starts to look like nothing I'm offering is working, I go back to my "go to" stuff and just hope the light switch flips on their feeding cycle.

If a set-up doesn't get hit after dragging it through a school i change something every 10-15 minutes...and if things don't pick up after an hour i change the technique alltogether (trolling, jigging off the bottom at anchor or drift jigging targeting suspended fish.) Usually between those 3 techniques one of them picks up fish when the other one won't.

On a good day I change whenever the kokes/trout shred my leader. On tough days I also stick with what I think will work.I tend to stick with stuff that ain't working until late in the day, then start switching drastically. So I end tough days with frantic frustrating lure changes and telling myself how pretty the lake was today.

I usually run 4+ rods, so, if the fish aren't biting, I try to change one whenever the kids give me a chance. Two babies (seriously, 6 months and 2 years old) in the boat makes for great times and interesting challenges.

Man that is mighty impressive I can't believe you can even set any lines with little guys on board. My 19 month old Grandson is hands on everything, he loves the boat ,but we haven't braved fishing yet.
