hi i am garrett and i am new to fishing for kokanee. i want to fish lake shannon in skagit county but i dont know how to chum for them and how to rig up my fishing pole for chumming. also if anyone has fished lake shannon before can u tell me some good spots to catch fish. every info counts please help me.

Your talking Shannon up by Baker Lake in Washington State correct? I haven't fished there but I've heard maggots work well. I've never chummed for kokes...usually troll or jig. Where I fish chum isn't legal. For trolling it helps to have a good fishfinder to see the schools and downriggers to be able to get down to them. Jigging can be done while anchored up or a slow drift with a slight breeze useing 1/2 to 3/4 ounce lead jigs. If you have the time I'd recommend reading the book "Kokanee...a Complete Fishing Guide" by Dave Bisor ... a Frank Amato Publication found at most sporting goods stores. This book has everything you'll ever need to know about kokanee fishing.

yah well there not in schools right now so u have to jig it or chum with a hook and shoe peg corn. i will try maggots. can u use artificial maggots? waht color jigs?

hey if there not schooled up it makes better sense to troll for them in my opinion you cover more ground and should be able to locate the more active fish this way. chumming works great on schools of fish not so good if your trying to bring them into you it will cause a hell of a feeding frenzy if you have a big school below you not so much on the small numbers of fish
good luck

Lake Shannon

Most people fish Shannon by the dam to the south of the launch ramp. They do chum with corn, but the fish can't digest the corn and it can kill them. If you fish with maggots in the same area you won't kill fish you don't catch.
