District 6 Fish Biologist Larry Phillips will be on American Lake (Pierce County) on June 15th.
“We are planning to fish American on the 15th so spread the word. I’ll be in the WDFW North River and will be fishing with Gary Chittim (King 5 News) to promote the stocking of triploid for Father’s Day. American is scheduled to receive 1,200 triploid ~1lbs each and 10, 000 diploid rainbow trout ~.5lbs each. Hope to see some of the regulars on the water.”
He would like to have some information from those who fish:
Summit Lake ( Thurston County)
“Summit Lake is stocked annually with ~200,000 fry. Kokanee are typically stocked into the lake in early June as fry (200-300 fish per pound). In recent years WDFW has been stocking 90% of these fish (180,000) in the normal June timeframe but holding the remaining 10% (or 20,000 ) at our hatchery and stocking them out as fingerlings in October at about 15-25 fish per pound. Prior to stocking the fall fish we removed the adipose fin so we can determine how well the different stocking strategies are working. Anglers who are targeting or who catch kokanee are asked to please record the date fished, and the length (closest ¼ inch total length) and clip status (yes or no) of each kokanee caught.
These data will be used to improve the quality of kokanee fishing in the future. Your assistance in appreciated. Data can be sent to [email protected] or 360-902-2721.”
