The lake is open. They plowed a single lane into the campground boat ramp. Docks aren't in yet. Water temp was 39 degrees. We only fished for Kokanee for 30 minutes. Tried jigging for the first time. No luck (no surprise since I didn't know what I was doing). We saw a couple fish caught by others. They looked really small and were thrown back.
There were large schools of fish right where the water gets deeper beyond the boat ramp in 40'-60' of water.
I just got back from up there...took mom for a mothers day drive after dinner. They just opened up the 10 mile gate this weekend...road up to East Lake is blocked off at Paulina campground...still too much snow. Looked like there was a couple feet around Paulina but at least the lake is thawed. Hopeing they get a section of dock in real soon...they're still covered with snow sitting in the parking lot. Next time up will be with the boat in a week or two. thumbsup
Just got an email from ODFG that said people were limiting on Kokanee at Paulina. Anyone here have first hand information on what to use and where exactly to fish ? I'm returning to this area after being away for 30 years. Would really like to get back into fishing for Kokanee, but need to start from scratch.
I was there Sunday and only saw a couple small fish caught (and thrown back). You will see the boats lined up at the point where the water drops off to 70' or so. It's a couple hundred yards from the boat ramp. I saw large schools of fish on the fishfinder but none were biting. I think most people jig early in the year when the fish are schooled up. The fish are scattered at Wickiup right now.
They just plowed the road to the boat ramp Saturday so I'm not sure when folks were limiting out. I don't think they were doing it Sunday from what I saw...
