Hey I am putting this out there to see how many people and companies would be interested. We are trying to put together an association called the Utah Kokanee Anglers. It would be an annual donation of $30.00 and you would get a free shirt or hat or whatever we decide to do each year. The money would be donated to the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources for Kokanee egg production for Strawberry & Flaming Gorge Reservoir. I would love for your responses.

Jason, This would be mostly for Flaming Gorge and Strawberry Reservoir to add additional Kokanee. The other reservoirs in Utah that have Kokanee are self sustaining and don't need more Kokanee. With that being said it would be there to help the DWR put Kokanee in new bodies of water in the state, which they have one place they will be adding Kokanee to in the next few years.

In regards to the second part of Jason's question, how does this relate to other Kokanee organizations such as Kokanee Power? Is this a duplication in effort or is there no other existing Kokanee aid currently out there? I am interested in some form of support to the growth of area Kokanee populations.

I also have an interest in this too. I like the idea of expanding into other lakes with less predatory pressure. This sounds like another name for Kokanee Power. But I'm not opposed of it.

This would be a different name, i guess if you want to call it that. Now with adding Kokanee to different bodies of water that is 100% up to the Utah DWR to make thoughs decisions. All we are trying to do is give the DWR funding to add more Kokanee to there quota's. As of right now it would only help Strawberry & Flaming Gorge. When the DWR makes the final decision to put them somewhere else then it can help out. All other lakes with Kokanee in them now are self sustaining and the DWR does not stock them. Just for more information the Utah DWR stocks 400,000 kokanee in Strawberry and 700,000 in Flaming Gorge. They are trying to put 700,000 in Strawberry and 1,000,000 in Flaming Gorge. This money would help them do that and with more people involved we could get those numbers doubled as long as there are egg resources to help.

You would not be required to do anything. With that being said the DWR always takes volunteers; the DWR would love to have people come help and they show the groups where the money is going, like egg taking, fish feed, buying eggs from others states and so on.

It has been 2 1/2 months since this posting. Was wondering if there is some development in this organization? Need an update of where things are going.

Have recently talked with the Utah DWR. For them to take the money to help with Kokanee we would need to file a 501 C3 Non profit Organization form. Which requires us to have board members, meetings, and such. However there is currently a 501 C3 called Strawberry Anglers Association which helps Strawberry rivers, streams, and lake management. The Utah DWR is going to let me know if we can get the money to them and they write one big check for our extra Kokanee production. This is still in progress but in may take a long time before we can see anything from this.
