Hey all,
Fished for kokanee for the first time last week while camping at Cougar campground on Yale Lake, Cougar, WA. Did a little research on longlining and my son managed to get 1 one. Decided I needed to be using a downrigger but I didn't foresee that being in the budget. Did a little more research and found a donor rod for the project. Had an old Av80 spooled up with 65lbs braid, 32oz cannon ball on a ball bearing swivel, and a scotty release.
Wanted to try this on the cheap, so I rigged up with a Brad's Wobbler (have a whole bunch for fall chinook) in place of a dodger, and tied up some hoochie rigs tipped with white shoepeg corn.
Headed out with the DIY DR yesterday. On the water at 8:15 and marked some fish 35' about 50 yards from the ramp. got the rig in the water and had the first one in the box about 5 minutes later. Ended up going 16/19 and packing out by 1pm. Most fish were holding at aroud 55 feet.
Think I'm developing a problem. LOL
