...at least the first one is done.

I built this on a Rainshadow RDR76L blank. Spiral wrapped with micro guides. The feel and the action on this stick is incredible. It is exactly what I was looking for. Unlike some rods that are built on lightweight fly blanks this has backbone for hauling macks or big 'bows but thanks to the blend of e-glass and intermediate modulus graphite it has the mellow action that I was looking for.

Looking forward to spring!!

Wow!!! Looks fantastic! I am envious that you made it yourself.

Thanks...its what I do with my "spare" time. Building rods isnt rocket science. It does take copius amounts of patience when first starting though. If you want to build rods just jump in and get started. Setting up the spiral with the micro guides took a little extra figuring and fumbling but I now have a good technique for setting them up and static testing without having the little buggers fly all over the shop.

Here is a shot of one of the micros with a gel pen for comparison. By the way, all the single foot guides have the "forhan locking wrap" that effectively locks the guides in place. The blank would be damaged before you could ever get one of these off without cutting through the epoxy and threads.

Very nicely done. A real pro at work. I'm thinking about getting a couple of Vance's spiral wrap rods for my next set. Maybe I should try this. thumbsup

Retail for the blank and the components I used for these is $100.43 ea. I could have saved about 20 bucks on each by going with cork for the rear grip but I wanted to play with the carbon fiber.
