I'm a rookie here, and to Kokanee fishing. Heading up to Tahoe and will try for some Kokanee.

Question? I have 9 colors of lead core on Shimano Tekota reel. I'm guessing I could probably get to about 40 feet down with that alone. I am trying to figure what would be the best way to get another 20 feet deeper if necessary. Without a downrigger. A 1 ounce sliding sinker? And not sure how much lower that would take it down? Any other ideas? Still trying to get my feet wet fishing for Kokes.

Thanks, Dave S.

A Dipsy Diver or Slide Diver Lite Bite. The Dipsy Magnum gets you the deepest. You might want to use a little heavier line for the large Dipsy...I don't know the test of your lead line.

Hey thanks Full Monte, I will look into both of those. Using 12 pound lead line. Would the divers need an additional weight attached?

Full Monte, I have already checked into using the dipsy diver, i think i have the answer to my question and it is, "no" don't need any added weight when using the dipsy diver.

Thanks for that, with that info, i think i'll have 2 rods rigged. One with the lead core 12 pound, 10 colors for 40 feet, and one with the dipsy, monofilament to get down to 80-100 feet?

Not sure if that makes sense but i'll give her a try.

thanks again for your response.

101welcomw Dave S. I would like to hear of your success at Tahoe. We need pictures. Such a lake of beauty with surroundings. A pink lady or deep6 is on the same order as a dipsy diver. Tight lines.

Okay Bduck, if I have a photo i'll send it. Still getting adjusted to Tahoe without a guide. It's huge and it's deep. Challenging to learn the techniques etc. Trial and error, that's me.

Anyway thanks for the additional diver tips. We'll also try and land a Mackinaw or two.

Struck out at Tahoe this last weekend. Still learning, Frid morning jigged for Mackinaw with minnows off the Casinos at Stateline Lake Tahoe, lost two, one on a 6 pound leader that snapped, not at the knot but about 3 or 4 inches from the knot. After about 10 minutes of holding on to this guy at about 150 feet deep, I tried gently to get him off the bottom with a strong, steady ,slow ,short pull. The line snapped, crap.

Sat went out for Kokanee with my brother, but it was a hellacious day out on Lake Tahoe. Small craft advisory winds, very uncomfortable couldn't really get any fishing in. Not sure how you guys do that on the Great Lakes. We were in a 20 foot crestliner and still were bobbing like a cork constantly.

No photos BDuck, maybe next time.

Went out Sat
