Finally got out to Berryessa for only the 2nd time this year. While it was a rather slow day we kept 7 fish, let a few smaller ones go and lost a handful along the way. It's the biggest fish I have caught for July at Berryessa with 5 slugs in the 16.5 to 18 inch class. Of the 7 we kept it was 6 males and one female which was the heaviest at 2.3 lbs, all kokes. Only 1 nice 18 inch furry trout that got sent back.
It was a very overcast morning and took us a while to get going and really find fish. Keep in mind they won't always mark on the finder but they are down there (confirmed on video later). Made big loops from the Ranch House north and over to the Big Island back down to the tip and across again. No real pattern to what they wanted so UL spinners (hot Belly) and RMT hoochies (purple passion) got bit. Once I had sun out I watched some big fish on the video tease up to the lures and then lose interest. 55 to 67 feet was the range. Now for a few pics..
Always good to start with the shot of dam on the way out...
Our first two fish were slugs... where I doubled up on Uncle Larry's Hot Belly within minutes of each other...
Rachel got a few as well...Hey look... the sun broke out...
Here's the 7 we kept before it was time to go swimming in the heat of the early afternoon
Now it's off to Lake Almanor for some Kokanee Power Derby action for Trout and King Salmon and maybe some Browns.. who know.
