Just when you thought big Kokanee could only exist at Lake Berryessa along comes Camanche Reservoir as a sleeper surprise where technically Kokanee should not really exist, especially in any quantity. None the less monkey see monkey do and I was invited by Capt Al to check out the action with my daughter.
The action started off with a flurry of Trout bothering the lines and then Rachel managed to reel in a Koke. After that short morning flurry it was pretty slow action while we were stripped of corn on the short biters and false releases. So when all was said and done we had 5 Kokes for the day up to 17.25 inches and tossed the trout back to live another day. No real pattern to the lures and what bit and the fish were anywhere from 50 to 75 feet. A few pictures to document another wonderful adventure for my favorite fish.....
The infamous sunrise...
Setting the traps...
Rachel reels in first Koke of the day on a Capt Al special setup....
Capt Al with the bounty of the day...
