I was talking to the fine folks that run Lucerne Valley and Loops A thru D will be closed until next year for reconstruction. Camping rates will not change since they were raised last year when new restrooms with showers were installed. Current camping fees are $22.00 a night. Loop E is reservations only-still open and Loop F is first come first serve-still open. Group sites loop still open by reservations only. Make shift sites were installed along the tree line next to the road leading to the camping loops using picnic tables and fire rings from closed loops. Due to hard economic times, rise in fuel cost, and reconstruction of camp grounds, attendance at Lucerne is way down. The past 2 trips I have been there, the camp grounds never filled up. I usually go to Loop F and have been able to get a good site.

The construction from my understanding consists of more electrical sites, larger sites-possibly pull thrus, paved, and those blasted concrete barriers that line all sites and roads removed. 101ok101

Raynette tells me that the removal of the concrete barriers will be an income source. Anyone that parks on a site off the pavement will be fined up the arse!

For some of us its not to hard to obey the rules. Plus with reconstruction of the sites, they are suppose to be larger to accomadate the larger class of RV's. I for one will be glad those barriers are out of there. It could be a terribly lawsuit if someone gets injured really bad. I have tripped over those and gone down hard on the ground and it could have been worse with there close location in relation to the picnic tables . I have twisted my ankle several times on those barriers. Whats sad is you know they are there but can't seem to avoid them.

I see all this site upgrades with mixed emotions. Every year for the past couple have been harder and harder to get the site I want using the reservation process. I guess this all means the place is getting more and more popular.
