It's on! Ice Kokanee Season has arrived in Idaho!

I fished Mackay Res. this morning. The Grumpy Guys ice houses are sitting over 34' of water on 15 to 17" of crystal clear ice. The locals report fishing being slower than usual with 2 to 4 fish days. I think I figured it out but you will need a fish finder. The fish are generally caught near the bottom year after year. This morning I picked up fish from 5' to 25' with very few fish showing up within 2' of the bottom. Fun day once I figured out you just had to chase them up and down the water column. On the ice in the dark and off by 9 or so.

Frozen fish

Great pictures. I managed to catch the flue thursday and am just getting back to normal!

Look like great weather over there. Pictures looked close to the boat launch. Was anyone fishing over by the dam, about the middle of it 50-75 yards out.

Did you have to thaw the fish to clean them.thumbsup

You can fish any where you want but no one ever does. You would need a 4 wheeler to get there. Everyone I know including the locals fish by the ramp but then that is the only access in the winter that I know of.

Yes, as with all ice fishing in the cold you have to thaw them somewhat to fillet them. I've never thawed them enough to try cleaning them.

The temp was around -21 with the wind chill. The wind always blows there so drill your holes so you fish facing the dam. The wind blows from the headwaters to the dam every day during the winter.
