News Release from Lucerne Marina


After the 2011 Villa “Spring Fling” Fishing Derby held annually on Lake Flaming Gorge, Dirk Larsen decided that he would not be continuing the Derby into 2012. Lucerne Valley Marina and the Flaming Gorge Chamber of Commerce have received approval from the U.S. Forest Service to host this annual event.

The Flaming Gorge Fish Derby will be held May 19th & 20th, 2012 with team registration on May 18th, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Lucerne Valley Marina, Manila, Utah. Weigh-ins on the 19th & 20th will be at Lucerne Valley Marina and Cedar Springs Marina outside of Dutch John, Utah. The 2012 Flaming Gorge Fishing Derby will be operated very similar to past Villa derbies. Pre-entry forms have been sent out to the Captains from the 2011 Derby for pre-entry which are due by April 10, 2012 with the entry fee of $175.00. If you weren’t a previous Captain and would like to fish in the 2012 Derby please call Lucerne Marina at 435-784-3483 to request a waiting list form.

Cash & prizes will be awarded based on the number of entries. There is a 300 team limit. Derby Hats will be given to all contestants as well as great prizes. The largest fish of the tournament will be paid $1500.00 and cannot be a Lake Trout or a Catfish. Other payouts are:
Lake Trout - 1st Place $1500.00, 2nd - $800.00
Small Mouth Bass - 1st Place $1000.00, 2nd - $700.00, 3rd - $500.00
Brown Trout- 1st Place $1000.00, 2nd - $700.00, 3rd - $500.00
Rainbow Trout- 1st Place $1000.00, 2nd - $700.00, 3rd - $500.00
Kokanee Salmon- 1st Place $1000.00, 2nd - $700.00, 3rd - $500.00
Catfish- 1st Place $500.00, 2nd - $100.00

I have not seen anything in my mail yet, and I have been group captain, including last year's derby. Do you know when the forms were mailed?

Since this is Lucerne Marina's first year in hosting it, there might be some glitches. Best to contact them directly.

To all that may read this, there are glitches in this. Apparently all the captain's names were not turned in, and there is now a waiting list to get in, even if you were in last year. Call the marina for info...

Also notice that there is no scale at buckboard. Yet one clear down at cedar. That makes a lot of sense.
