Finally got to fish New Melones for some Kokanee. Started at the Spillway for non-stop action. We fished everywhere. Spillway, Dam, South Island, Rose Island, Ship wreck island, Glory Hole Point, Black Bart and into Angels Creek. Fish were caught in all these places. We had over 30 hook ups. Released 15 and we kept our ten. Apex's and RGT's is all we used. Nickel, Pink and Orange were the best colors. Our depths were between 45' to 60'. Garlic, Anise and Carp Spit were the scents of the day. Vance's dodgers is all we used. I really like the two new ones in Blue. Here are some photos of our great catching day.

I have fished that lake a couple times a week, for the last 3 months. My biggest to the boat was a hair under 14 1/2" I have not seen a picture of anything that big yet, but thats not to say they are not in there.

I really like the Vance Dodgers too. They really kick, more so then some others. Each its place.
Whats the fastest you can troll the Vance's before they roll?

Hi Guy's,

Robbie,

Thank you for posting a great report and again some great pictures of the day.

Steve079,

I designed my Dodgers to have the most aggressive action possible for the length and weight of the blade at speeds from 1.1 to 1.5 m.p.h. Some Dodgers vary because of the paint but most will roll at 1.7 to 1.8.

I personally never fish for Kokanee at speeds faster than 1.5 but I know and understand that some guys like to troll faster. One of those guys is Tak Wantanabe, while fishing with Tak I found a way to fish my Dodgers at speeds over 2.0 m.p.h. You can do this by simply adding a small split shot to the leader about 1 inch below where the leader attaches to the snap on the Dodger.

This minute amount of weight not only stops the Dodger from rolling, it works as a catapult and creates an unbelievable amount of action to your hoochie or spoon.

The size of the split shot needed will vary with the speed that you plan to go. It is not necessary until you go above 1.6 to 1.7 m.p.h.

Good luck fishing

Vance
