I have a Lowrance HDS 5 gen 1 fish finder/chartplotter on my boat today. The head unit is dash mounted but I spend 95% of my time in the back of the boat fishing and am constantly walking back and forth to see what my depth and sped is. In the past I’ve used my hand held gps for speed but still need to walk up to the chart plotter to see where I am with respect to various structure/channels etc. The back of my fish finder has a enet port and according to Lowrance (and what I’ve read online) you can use that port (and the corresponding cable) to essentially connect two head units to one transducer.
Has anyone had any experience with this? Did it work, was it difficult to get set up correctly, etc? Tips/tricks?

I haven't networked Lowrance products but I put in a second mounting station on the boat which allows me to move the FF to the rear. If you aren't concerned about the two FF's sharing info a 30 dollar kit gives you another power cable and mounting bracket. Easy to move it from front to back. I did run a network cable to share the transducer so I didn't have to move the cord every time. . (mine is a Garmin) Just another idea I thought I would throw out.
