I leave April 5th for Oregon to pick up my new to me boat. It's a 2004 Trophy 2052 w/ Alaskan hardtop! I'm really excited the boat is in excellent shape. I had it mechanically inspected by a third party and everything checked out great. Does anyone rent a slip at buckboard for the season. I'm considering it but not sure how much it would cost a month. If it's too pricey I might just leave it in dry storage and pay by the day when we're actually there. Here's a link to the boat in cause anyone would like to look.

Let me know what you think!

Mike,

Thanks guys... Still trying to decide on a name. I have a short list of possible's so far. I'm an avid beer home brewer so was thinking maybe " Pint Sized". We also have two dogs that will be lounging around while we fish. so .. "Dog Water" " Wet Dog" are some possible choices. Once I get it up from Oregon I'll need to install a few things to get it ready to roll. Just received a quote from remote troll in Logan for 750. My dad always fished the remote trolls without any issues. My only issue is my kicker is 2-stroke so i'm not sure where my fuel tank will live just yet. It also needs a VHF and of course downriggers. For riggers i'm thinkng of going with the Big Jon Captains pack. Also more than likely going to need re pitched and jetted for altitude. This thing is a money pit and I haven't even gotten it home yet. laugh hyst

Good move on the remote troll.750,00 wow Sure alot more then when i bought mine, almost 25yrs ago. Mike check into the wireless remote for your bracket. I went wireless and didn't look back, it was money well spent.

Thanks for the suggestion on the wireless I do remember that was the one thing that would fail on my dads remote troll every few years was the switch. He eventually just made his own out an old flash light and radio shack spring return toggle switch.

Hi Mike - Sounds like a nice package. I have never used or fished with anyone with Big John downriggers. They always looked cumbersome to me when I have looked at them. I have had Scotty for over twenty years (yes same set!) and love them. No problems, they just work and are easy to use; nice low profile. Have fun, new boats are an adventure beyond the money pit. FISH ON - Alan

Alan, Thanks for the input on the riggers I haven't made up my mind yet. I do have a lot of experience with cannon riggers but thought the Jon's would look a little nicer. Might have to run down to ogden to sportsman's and put my hands on a set.

Morning Mike,
The only other thought I had on the subject of downriggers was to add the swivel bases. Ball retrievers are nice if you are using the long arms. I have mine ( short arms) mounted as far back as possible, basically right at the splash well inside wall. This makes them easy to get at and also minimizes the issue of a cable in the kicker. Counter intuitive but that's how the geometry works out. Also putting them back allows easier entrance into the boat from the dock when the top is up. We use the top most of the time and fish year around on Lake Roosevelt in Eastern Washington.

On with The Experiment! Alan
