Hey thanks for letting me be part of the forum. I’m in northern Idaho and primarily fish lake pend oreille. From the posts and pictures I’ve seen so far I’m impressed with the level of knowledge. I have been reading up to bide my time till I can get out on the lake.

17 foot 1990 Alumacraft Trophy. 90 hp Mercury outboard 5 hp Evinrude kicker power v electric trolling motor. Hummingbird helix 7 gps/DI Scotty depth power downriggers traditional planer board system.

Favorite rig shimano Talora trolling rod Abu Garcia c3 “Kokanee” model. Maxima ultra green. Chrome “flashlite” flashers, orange wedding band tipped with maggots.

Hi Ruckus , Glad you decided to join us. I was in CDA 5 years ago , when I got there I wanted to go find Pend O'reille and never got to. That is one of the fishing spots on my fishing Bucket list I need to try out. I would be interested in some photos from up there . Sure let me figure out how to upload some pics. Pend oreille is a beautiful lake. Even on a busy day you can have a 1/2 mile between you and the others. Nice big fish too. You just can’t mess around when a storm comes. I’ve seen 3 to 5 foot swells and took waves over the bow. Let me know if you ever get back up here.

Welcome aboard Ruckus. I knew guys I use to work with that would sport Land Pend O'Reille and reported a lot of good. I guess I'll have to bucket list too. I like the rotated pics, while fishing for bows you can Halo fish too. 101wave101
 
Hummingbird helix 7 DI range on Pend Oreille lake

Found out that the helix is a bit out gunned for the depth of my lake. The manual says it’s max is 650. The guys at the navy base said it’s near 1400 feet deep near Cape Horn. The helix will find the deepest thermal and tell me that’s bottom even in 500 feet. I just went to a seminar on fish finders. The guy who taught the class said to switch the settings to salt water and max the depth range and pump up the sensitivity. If the weather holds I should be out in the coming weeks. I’ll let you know if this helps. Let me know your thoughts. 101chromefish101
 
My thought is you’d never be fishing over those depths. The GPS side of the screen would have contours of those deep areas from a navigation standpoint.
 
Fishing depths

Very true lol. I guess the dilemma is if I leave the depth to auto then it will grab a thermal anywhere from 35 to 90 feet and call that bottom. If I set the max depth I loose so of the zoom feature due to using the spilt screen for my contour map.
 
The way I manage zoom on my Helix in split screen is to pick the section of the water column that I'm interested in, i.e. set an upper and lower range. For mid season Kokanee fishing I'll pick 30' to 70' for my range and get maximum zoom. The tighter the range, the more the zoom.
