I just started chasing Kokes and following this forum... I must say there is some amazing info exchanged! I have learned a ton and have been fairly successful so far. We are going to make our second trip up to the gorge this weekend and were hoping to gain a little insight on where best to start looking for Kokes with decent size out of sheep creek? At the beginning of July we caught a nice limit out of antelope flats... should we try the same area or what or some other thoughts? Any help would be appreciated!

Antelope Flats...interesting. That's not one of the "normal" heavy traffic areas for kokes. Seems to be the farther up you go, the bigger they get. We caught decent ones last week at Rawlins and the pipeling. Heard other guys with good ones at buckboard and anvil. Good luck! Think pink.

Keep doing what you're doing and start refining your presentation. If you're marking fish and only picking up the smaller ones, go deeper. Use more of your tackle arsenal with different colors and color combinations. The kokes ought to be congregating in Sheep Creek Bay right now getting ready to head upstream to Sheep Creek Lake. This is something every koke fisherman should plan to see. The migration is fantastic!

When is the best time to see the " migration" I have always wanted to see it, but I cant stop fishing long enough to go see it. I have promised my wife and kids a trip to see it.

The last week of august up at Strawberry by the visitors center and you should be able to start seeing them up there. I don't know about the Gorge but I would imagine it would be about the same time frame.

The peak of the run in Sheep Creek is usually around Sept 21st. Fish will typically start entering the creek the last week of August- first week of September. Early on it's almost like turning on a switch, where one day- nothing, the next day- the water is red. You can usually find the highest and most accessible concentrations near Mann Campground, the first bridge on the Geologic Loop, and Carmel Campground. Of course the Kokanee bridge at the Scenic Byway pull-out always has a few fish too. Good luck, Ryno
