I went today and bought a couple of rod alarms for kokanee fishing at the NW Sportsmen Show . The alarms are sensitive enough so you can hear them go off when I have simulated a kokanee bite (trying them out) attached to my Scotty downriggers in my garage . I believe a person needs Scotty rod holders different from the ones that come with the downriggers to accommodate the alarms so the poles will sound off . I 'm generally on the poles visually for the first 2 or 3 hrs on the lake but I usually loose some of my focus after that so the alarms will do there thing & alert me later on in the day . I also enjoy the scenery very much while trolling around the lake & don't monitor the poles very well at times . I wish everyone the best fishing at Merwin this year . If you see a white Motion Marine with a black top up there come over and say hi and ask me if my alarms have been going off .

Hope they work well for you.
If I see you up there I will say hi.
Lot's of good deals at the show.
I picked up a bunch of Rocky Mountain tackle stuff at the Bob's booth.
Jared Johnson brought me a Kokanee kit I ordered and gave me a great discount.
It is a good show.

14- you got our curiosity up. What kind are they? I like the idea and have tried a few production bells, and have made my own from alligator clips/bells, but if you forget them or can't get it off in time they fly into the water. I would be interested in any new concept. Thanks. Old School

I am curious as well on the type of alarm. I have used the bells that old school has mentioned. Some times a fish will be dragged around while the scenery is being awed at. How about posting at pic?

Ohhh that hit home for me! I was busted this summer up there when my wife us up front steering from the console and I was "re-rigging" a rod. She apparently noticed I was not doing much rigging and announced - "Hey stalker boy you want to get the fish on the other rod!" Proof I'm old enough to know better but still too young to care!

14 - I'll be listening for your alarms to go off so I can swoop in on the hot bite up there. It will cut down on my binocular scanning to see who has nets flying!

Rod Alarms For Kokanee fishng

Goggle Firststrike Rod Alarms . You can get all the information you need on the alarms . They even have a youtube demo . When I hooked them up to my Kokanee rods and pulled down to simulate a Kokanee biting they sounded like a bird chirping . Good luck if anyone tries them .

No , they are not cheap but well constructed . I have had another alarm for over three years now and it 's still holding up just fine . I have yet to change the battery .
