A big chunk of my kokanee trolling has been done with spinners, Spin-N-Glos or spoons. Now I'm wondering if plugs wouldn't work for some of these west-side fish, especially some of the larger fish.

I've got a bunch of smallish bass/panfish crankbaits, Flatfish and so on. Is anybody using plugs? Any advice, warnings, suggestions?

When kokanee fishing was first taking off in Roosevelt, one of my fishing buddies used to use small minnow-shaped baits in fluorescent orange and gold--his were made by Poe's--that were similar to the Rapala minnow.

--lyman lures, tomic lures
--I have found on some I change the hook to more of a trailing hook so expecially on a small plug the hook also gets some movement..

--I still tend to use the smaller sizes... when shoe is on the other foot checkout the kokanee spawning colour lyman for that other fish species to take a bite at.

I think useing something that they're not used to seeing makes all the differance some days. Give the plugs a try...you just never know!thumbsup

I use tomic lures when the bite slows down in late mornings / early afternoons and nothing else seems to work. I've had enough success to carry them on every trip now and have a variety of colors. I think part of the success is because kokanee don't see them very often and it is different presentation. They also work great on the browns and rainbows.

Know matter what people decide to use Presentation is very important. For all speicies. Just my opinion. Ken

The first time I had success with plugs for kokes was when the fishing was slow and I decided to put something on my second rod that might entice a rainbow. Low and behold it started getting hammered by kokes. Now in that instance, the plug was being fished naked, no dodger.

--I have also found that when two rods out.. using willow leaf with lure behind and on other rod a plug that I get more fish on the plug than I do when fishing with only a plug or only a willow leaf style.
--I think the willow leaf brings them in then they see the plug near by.

--Sometimes run the willow leaf blades with no hook from the cannon ball then plug above on clip.
