Ok everybody I need some info does anyone or everyone worry about positive ion if so how much and how do you get it?
Second, when trolling using the 100 rule for set back say you got 50 feet behind ball have line set to 50 ft deep doesn't your line go deeper or drift up?

that is just a rule meant to be broken or at least modified depending on conditions. I use it as a guide just to be consistent just like line counters are not all that accurate it just puts you in the same spot each time. so as conditions change so will your depth and set back. as far as positive ion goes I had it added to my Scotties and my cannons have it built in, haven't noticed any difference with it on or off but I don't think it hurts. dfly

if you want to troll at a depth of 50 ft with a setback of 50 ft how do you know that your lure is still at 50 ft deep

you can see it on the depth finder, for the most part it trails pretty much straight back judging from all that I have seen and read, but I know it will drop if you slow down or zig zag depending on which one is on the inside but that is what you are wanting to achieve, to try to trigger a bite. none of this is exact what you are trying to do is if it triggers a bite you want a reference to be able to repeat it again. whether it is your speed, depth or set back. dfly

positive ion control will only be affective at about 25 feet or closer to the ball and cable 100 feet rule is ok but like dfly says rules are made to be broken. just give the fish what they want. and learn by experimentation .
