From what I understand it seems most kokanee fishermen try to match their lure and dodger colors. I go by this as far as colors for the depth I'm fishing, but do they need to be as close to each other as possible? Has anyone seen a higher catch rate doing this over mixing different colors that attract for the same depth? Do you believe that since the dodger color got them interested, the lure color needs to be the same since that's what got them to your set-up in the first place? I know useing certain dodger's (watermelon, hyper-plaid, silver/gold) do well, but in your experiance has matching color combinations done better?

It seems reasonable to assume that if a certain dodger color attracted them a matching lure color would also stimulate a response. I think I do better when things are matched up. Maybe I'll do an experiment if the bite ever turns on.

I believe sometimes matching the color of the flasher to hte color of the target species attracts them ("Hey look Frank, there is a feeding frenzy going on over there, let's go check it out...") then the lure is what triggers the strike. If you watch underwater videos (I have run my Aquaview off the wire) many times the fish will swim up, "fly in formation" with the dodger, then drop back and hammer the lure.

I have done best this year with silver/chrome/hyperplaid/bahama-mama type dodgers and a pink or orange lure. I have done decently well on orange or pink dodgers with a similar colored lure.

It's the pink corn I did in AK Nitro that seals the deal. ;)

I've had the same dodger on multiple rods with different lures and the fish were keyed into one lure and one lure only. I came away from that thinking that the dodger isn't as important as we make it out to be.

I like the UV Sling Blade because it shows every color in the rainbow, especially on a sunny day, so it matchs any lure I use. I still will try other colors (as long as they glow) but uv is my go to dodger.

I've often thought the same thing. A couple years back I went 2 season's in a row useing just one dodger (Seps Watermelon) and just changed out the lure color for the depth I was fishing. Like Petty said, contrast plays and important role it seems. The contrasting colors of that dodger with the dots thrown in have done well with all lure colors and depths in my experiance. I think the dodger's shape is more important for what speed your trolling for the best action of not only the dodger, but the trailing lure also. I'm doing more experimenting now, and wondered what criteria everyone goes by when choosing their set-ups.

I'm into color matching. I believe color at depth is the key to successful Koke fishing so as I graduate my dodgers to larger sizes for deeper fishing in later season conditions I also graduate the color.
