reel big enough??

I have an older Abu Garcia 4600 c3 in great shape Thinking of putting it on a rod I use for stripers and lakers over the winter. Currently use a classic Penn 209 since a 20+ is always an option. Is the C3 big enough for the odd hog. Anybody use this size reel for bigger fish??
