I've seen a few tackle manufacturers offering these for a price that I thought was a bit exorbitant so one of my friends and I took to trying our own version. It will be getting water tested at the Gorge in a couple of weeks.

I'm told that the secret is in the snap swivels at the blades. Not only does it allow to change blades but apparently the only way the blades will spin when the rod is loaded which pulls the clip out of the horizontal plane.

Are you planning on just useing it off the ball? Seems like attaching it to the end of a set of ball trolls might be worth a try also. I've heard of success attaching a regular release to the end of ball trolls and when the rod gets loaded the blades flutter more than rotate producing a different look/vibration.

Wouldn't you need arms the length of a Condor wing span to clip into the end of a set of ball trolls? LOL!

I've never actually tried it...just assumed they clipped in before lowering the ball? I don't think the ball trolls i use sometimes (2 sets in tandem - 8' total length) would work out too well with a release clip on the end...lol! laugh hyst

Nice setup SuperD ,I made a similar one blade release I haven't tried yet. I was wondering about the tubing over the cable. I know there was a thread recently that mentioned the tubing for DR releases. I've been using bare cable or coated (black or red ) 45lb test steel leader.Does the tubing seem to work better than bare cable? Mark

Mark, the tubing is a must in this case so that the clevis' don't all slide together, albeit, I like tubing better than bare cable regardless. The tubing that was used in this release was shrink tube found at Lowes.

Kevin, I scavenged the yellow clips off old releases I had. FYI, they sell the rubber replacement pads if you want to fix up old worn out clips. I will also give you the link to where I've seen the clips sold in 4 paks just as a clip.

Tks Dave... Never knew they had pad replacements so that is nice. It doesn't appear they sell the clips alone outside of a bundled package it I should have a pile of expended ones to repair

Kevin

I have purchased the yellow ones in the past from cabelas. There a bit pricey at around 4.50 to 5.00 bucks a piece. They come in a pack of four.

Mark, go over to Anglers Den for a package of 4 of the yellow clips. Its as pricey as Cabelas but saves driving all the way to SLC.

For those that have a Bi-Mart close by the 4 pack of Offshore OR-10 yellow releases can be purchased through their special order catalog for $16.99.
