road side camping @ G.P

was thinking bout doing roadside camping at gp to save gas on my 90 mile round trip days to gp (45 miles there, 45 back).
ive got friends that live in sweet home but there usually gone on weekends so i cant crash there everytime,
i know gp has a campground but i cant see spending 36 bucks for two days threre, so was wondering if anyone has done the roadside camping thing?

I have heard say that if you camp along the road they will charge you, check with the forestry. I will be up there in the morning.
