Lake level

Water level on Roosevelt can be viewed at : http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/hydrograph.php?wfo=otx&gage=gcdw1&view=1,1,1

We have heard that the water is down to work on the dam. Lowest launch on lake at Spring Canyon is 1222. Water at 1217 right now. Also heard that they were going to bring up the water fast. This usually slows down the fishing. Be careful on Roosevelt when the water is coming up, lots of debris in the water.

Hey KK,
Depending on what time in June you're planning on going...the later, the better. SgtWB makes a great point, as to debris as well...pay extra attention with the kiddies flying around on tubes or racing to the good spot to fish! I'm sure the fishing will (still) be off a bit too...however, I believe they usually feel safer with rising water, then lowering. Have Fun!

Just fished Rufas Woods at the net pens for 5 days, did good got some 5 & 7 lb tripoids. then on Tuesday the indians let loose a few thousand Red Band Rainbows. and the rripoid fishing went down hill from there. I am in coolley dam right now and Roosevelt is way down, Spring Canyon boat ramp is closed, you can launch off the beach on the north side of the dam. I just talked to a guy that works at the dam and he said that in 2 weeks they are going to start filling the lake and it will fill really fast. Good Luck.

thanks for the info.we are not going till the last weekend in june,we are going to wait a while before canceling our res.

I would think you should be just fine then...I heard the Bureau was going to fill the lake quickly as well...so you should be able to launch. Keep an eye on the water level information and watch it rise as your dates get closer!! Hope you guys have a blast!

Yep, water levels will come up quick, and they are normally near summer level by Memorial Day. If that happens this year, that will be really quick! As mentioned, be careful on Roosevelt during the fill up phase, there will be lots of schtuff in the water that can damage motors and more.

Fishing is usually off when water levels are coming up, I'd wait until the levels stabilize a bit before planning a fishing trip or it might turn out to be what we call a "boat ride weekend". golucky

Hi Mav! 101wave2101

Hey Silver...I get the sneaky feeling you're the one plying our water ways in a white Hewes?!?!?! tooexcited
You're right Mav. My brother told me about this forum, and I've been on a real kokanee learning mission of late, so I started checking info here too. I'm going to hit on the technique soon, so the more I can read and filter, the better. thumbsup

Good news KK...water level above 1224 on 5/18/11...and rising fast! You should be able to launch at 2 of the lower launches right now!tooexcited

As of midnight yesterday, reservoir level was 1225.5' which makes Spring Canyon usable. Need another couple feet for Seven Bays to be usable yet, but at the rate it's coming up, it won't be long.

Here's a link from the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area website that lists water levels and it's updated daily so you can stay on top what's happening, also lists all the launches and what levels they are usable to - http://www.nps.gov/laro/planyourvisit/boating.htm 101cheers101
