so does a person need to run a rubber snubber this time of year when
koke fishing.

Interesting question....do you need subbers at all period? I fished odell this summer with the wife. the first day we were out on the lake she was out fishing the heck out of me so I rigged my pole with the same thing she had, a ford fender and orange wedding ring. I started getting hits but when I would get them up to the boat they would come off. I was getting pretty frustrated. My wife who is a fair weather fisherman at best says to me, do you have one of those orange strechy things on your line? I said you mean a snubber? I guess she says, I said well of course I do....she then says well I don't...maybe you should take your's off. the rest was history we both limited out. go figure.......

I don't use them at all. For me the hard head shakes and soft mouths are just part of the game. I use koke specific rods to compensate for a snubber. Try a JJ rod or a lamaglass,I use kufas they are on a fly rod blank. If you get away from the pop gear I think you will enjoy the fight.

Stopped using them

I quit using them a couple of years ago, after I switched to larger double hooks. Fish on to boat ratio is better than ever.

I fished today @ Lucky Peak. I experimented with snubbers today. On my leaded line setup if I had a red snubber on (large cans) I got zero hits. When I took it off I got plenty of action. I lost several fish though. I did not have a natural color, only Red and Green. With Pop gear I did better w/o and on the dodger no snubber.. The trailer hook seems to work great and I attribute that to a much better catch ratio. Now I'm working on a trailer hook for my N/C nighcrawler setup... good luck to you.

While my wife and I were fishing the day before the tourney at GP, we were not using snubbers. I had a couple nice kokanee rods and didn't lose any fish, my wife insisted on using her 7' medium action bass rods and she lost 3 of the first four fish hooked and fishing was hot. She put a snubber on just above her sling blade and the fish died for her while my rods stayed hot. after about an hour I finally got her talked into putting about 3 feet of leader between her snubber and the sling blade and her number of fish in the boat started climbing rapidly. We only lost six total fish for the weekend. So I think that snubbers are a help if you are using a stiff rod. If you rod is anice whippy kokanee rod, I don't think they are necessary.
