I've used downriggers over the years, but never have tried stacking them. I figure if I do try the double stack, I'd have one line out farther than the other, and my question has to do when I would get a fish on, and it happens to be one the shorter hook up if it's the bottom line, , is there a very good probablility that it may get tangled up in the longer line ? I only have the only one downrigger, and the wife has shown interest in fishing with me on kokanee this year. If it looks like I might wind up with a tangled mess using one downrigger, then I'll definitely be buying another one just for her,,, I hate tangles !! :-( 101thumbsdown101

you should always run your down line further back than the top line . but I stack often and it generally works well. have fun and be patient while you learn the technique

Simple things to remember:
1) Bottom line farthest back
2) Top line above the bottom line by about the amount of the top line set back. i.e. 10' set back and 10' depth separation.
3) Use clickers on your reels for deploying.
4) Consider a shuttlehawk for top line so that you don't have to reel in the bottom line when you get a fish on the top line.

I disagree super d ,at 30 to 70 feet down I usually run 30 to 50 feet back and 5 to 10 feet of separation on my stacker ,generally I don't have a problem with tangles with this method, and I don't particularly care for the shuttle hawk ,I prefer the clip on stacker like seps or Vance tackle sells. if their is someone that wants a shuttle hawk cheap pm me and I will sell it to you. but to each their own.

I run 3 downriggers and stack one with a shuttlehawk I put a scotty release on the shuttlehawk.
the first set back is 30' let the ball down put the shuttlehawk on set back 10' let the hawk down watching the fish finder to stop the hawk. somtimes I'm 15' above the ball. (somtimes this gets the most fish)
the next rigger I have a 20' set back, and the 3rd downrigger I have a set back of 10'. I have a lot of 50 plus fish a day at Flaming Gorge.
I can turn sharp and stay on the Kokes if I find a spot they are bitting. I use a minn kota elect trolling motor.

30 to 50 foot set back is just what I have always ran ,i may have made a mistake in my other post I try and get my top line 10 to 20 feet in front of the bottom line. If the fish are getting hot it only takes a very short set back
