I Finally decided I better give up Kokanee for the year before the fins rot off those Kokanee. It took me a day to revive some old salmon tackle from years past when there were salmon in the river. No better way to plan a trip than to hook up with Captain Al to refresh me on the techniques.
I decided to make it extra challenging by leaving the FishFinder / GPS Lowrance at home. tooexcited Al's response to my lapse of forgetting the electronics was something like "Honey Badger don't care!" It was old school where we concentrated on the gear instead of the electronics. It ended up paying off with getting our limits of fish, all on QuickFish with some sardine wrap thrown on for good measure. The fish weren't Sac river monsters but were all great fiesty jack fighters and my thrill was getting them while holding on to the rod whilst adjusting the line out so we were drudging the bottom. No complaints as the smoker gets an offering and we get a couple of meals too.
Here's pics of 3 of the 4 fish. A good way to start the season for me and just another day at the park for Al.
Al shows off his chromer...
I get my first fish in a few years... check out my lucky shirt...yes I was dreaming about salmoln the night before.
Another one for the box to complete the day...
I'm digging this salmon action... hopefully a few more trips will be in order.
