Was strolling down the isle at the grocery store today and found the all mighty SHOEPEG CORN! Been looking for this stuff in the stores everywhere and finally found it. So I bought 2 giant cans of it (~ a buck each), but was wondering what you guys use to scent it. I've heard that people put it in a jar or baggy overnight before going out in the morning. I have also seen some scent stuff at the store that looks like salt and then the stuff that looks like liquid.

Not really sure what to grab, there is such a variety. If someone could name a brand or type that would be helpful.

Thought scenting the corn myself would be a much more economical way at getting around those corn jars they sell in the stores for like 6 bucks, and you don't get that much.

I'm a bit of a mad scientist when it comes to scenting corn. First thing I do after opening up a new can is drain the water and lay the kernals out on a paper towel to get the corn as dry as possible. The corn I don't plan on useing right away goes into the freezer. The lack of water in the corn seems to help keep the kernals firm after thawing. I use small plastic butter containers to store the corn and label each batch with what was used.
All batches get a few drops of Pro-Cure anise plus and a shake of Wizard korn magic to toughen it up a bit and keep the corn from spoiling. For dyes I mainly use Wizard korn dye and Bad Azz color blast and have also been known to use Pautzke Nectar. Always dye...then scent. If you scent first the oils won't let the dye penetrate into the corn.
The batches I make up (I carry 3 different batches every trip) are usually scented with the Pro-Cure kokanee special, garlic plus (with a sprinkle of garlic slam-ola powder) and a batch useing pure vanilla extract. Some of the other Pro-Cure scents I use from time to time are...shrimp/prawn,carp spit, sqiud oil, krill oil, sand shrimp oil and herring oil.
I try to keep the containers of corn in the ice chest while out on the water and store it in the refer back home. If I don't plan on getting back out within the week the scented batches go into the freezer. I usually make up new batches every few weeks.
Use the Pro-Cure oil's for the corn and the gel's for your lure.

Hi,

Have tried all kinds of scents and colorings.
Best I've used so far has been "Crazy Dust" by "Little Atom" and sold thru "Your Bobbers Down". It has what's called C-9 anise in it.
Also I - "do not" - dry my corn as I want them to milk the Corn Scent and C-9 that will attract the Kokes.

All I use is shoepeg corn out of the can, put some in plastic bags. Open a can of tuna in oil and pour the oil into a container. Add some of the oil to the bag of corn then top off with some Garlic powder. Simple and cheep, you also get some tuna for a sandwich!

I like your style Calcan!

I got the corn at Safeway. I have been to just about every grocery store in the west-side of Washington though and can't find it over there, but I found this stuff over on the east-side seems like just about every grocery store here has it.

I get my green giant shoepeg corn at Walmart. Drain the water off it then I squirt some Anise cented "Lunker Lotion" in the corn and mix it up real good. Half in a plastic container and the other half in the freezer for next time. I've seen guys put a peice of corn on every single hook wich to me is just overkill. One peice on the hook closest to your line will do. Good luck.
