It is now time, since the Wickiup derby is water under the dam... to start getting ready for the annual Shelter Cove Team Derby at Odell Lake. I didn't fish this one last year, since I had an appointment with some salmon near a place called Astoria. I will however be there this year and I am looking forward to seeing you there as well, even, dare I say it, "Marshworm." I doubt that he will make it because he always has an excuse, but the invitation is out there and you guys are my witness. Shelter cove has pony'd up and put up an additonal $500.00 for the first place winner as well as a keg of free beer and oysters to munch on for the Friday night preceeding the derby (how could old marshworm pass that up?).
Now, it doesn't end there, you will get fed after the derby, and I am hearing that it is going to be Southern Pit BBQ and all the fixins (prepared by volunteers). While you are sitting around pounding down the fantastic meal, you can talk to all of the experts about technique. Thats right guys and gals, there will be several of the top names in the kokanee year book there to answer your questions.
Now to push it over the top, all of the moneys earned will be used to further our inland fisheries, teach kids to fish, take disabled veterans fishing and so on!
