Someone gave me a shuttlehawk and I was wondering what keeps it from sliding down all the way to the ball?

You keep it from sliding all the way down to the ball by putting a stopper on the steel line where you want it to stop. I use the same plastic stoppers that I use on my Scotty electric downriggers to turn off the downriggers when they rewind.

Dave, The shuttlehawks I have came with there own stop. I liked using them but since I upgraded my downriggers a stop won't work.

i have used the scotty line stop and the ones that come with the shuttlehawks them selves and have had minimal problems, we run them on hand crank cannons, the electric cannons, and the fast electric cannons and occasionally the stop with catch the pulley but they have seemed to work fine for the most part. Maybe a little break in is required, the stops on me and my dads boats have probably been on them for 5+ years and run good.

Anyone know if a Scotty line stop will go through a Cannon pulley?

I've used them on my Cannon electrics with no problems, and they've been on the cables for almost 2-years. I have to move them to adjust the depth, but usually just slide them up and down the cable instead of removing them.

I tried the Scotty stops with my Cannon Minimag and Easytroll and the stop did not pass through the pulley. I even tried wittling one down and still couldn't get it to work. Are there two sizes? They also bent my wire up so I gave up.

What about a bobber stop and a rubber band wrapped a few times and tied.

I was going to try sewing thread wrapped several times to make a small ball and then moistened with a drop of epoxy, but I haven't tried that yet.

Might work too. Being I rarely move mine vertically, I also wondered if archery noks would work(?). The only problem is they would crimp on the cable and if to tight would be difficult to slide up and down.

I still have the 'S' shape stop from scotty which it does put a bend or if your not careful can kink the cable. The Shuttle Hawk comes with it own in-line type stop which it goes thru most downrigger pulleys. My Walkers have a sleeve over the cable that works in conjunction with the auto stop. This sleeve won't allow me to us a on-line type of stop. This pic shows the 'S' stop and in-line stop. In-line stops can be purchased seperately.

I often don't use stops. I can either see the Shuttle Hawk on my FF, or I count out pulls. A small stacking clip will work without damaging the cable.

Again for guys with Cannon electric downriggers, does having to stop the downrigger manually present a problem? I usually hit the up button and concentrate on fighting the fish. It sounds like with a line stop I'd have to stop fighting the fish to stop the downrigger from eating the shuttle hawk.

Dave,

I've only used the ShuttleHawks when I had manual riggers, but I do know several people who use them on their Cannons with no issues, or at least have not mentioned it to me. The stop will kink your cables. That's one of the reasons why I just use stackers and now I know for a fact where my lure is really running when going deep. It's more work for some, but do it for as long as I have and it's a "breeze"

The stacker clip sounds like a reasonable solution. In trying to stack with a standard stacker clip, I've had the clip slide down the cable and seems pretty foregiving.
