Just started using my new downrigger and it seems to make a high singing noise. It is a Cannon EZ troll and I am using a 6# weight. I have been using it a 30 to 75 feet and usually troll at about 2.5 to 3 mph for trout. I will be going after some kokanee soon and am afriad the noise will scare the fish. I guess I need to know if that is normal or not and if not what do I do to fix it so it won’t sing.

If you have one of those ball retrieval systems (?) on your downriggers, you can put a little tension on the rope and it will reduce (sometimes eliminate) the signing on the downrigger cable. I have never noticed that the humming ever affected the fishing.

this should help take a wine cork split lenght wise half thru slide over cable all way down to ball zip tie shut tightly,no more cable sing
