I have a small boat, you'd call it a car topper. I have home made downriggers installed, they go on & off pretty easy. I purchased several Shuttle Hawks from Gary Miralles at the Redmond sports show to use on the downrigger line.

I need a fish finder with gps that can help me find the kokes. As the boat is small, and I won't be far from the screen, I won't be getting a fish finder with a 10" screen.

The fellow at Cabela's today was steering me towards a Lowrance Elite 5, it has a lot of nice features. Looking at the similar sized Humminbird there was one with "side imaging", which was $160 bucks more.

Trying to sort out all of the features of the different fish finders was like studying for the semester finals .... and I haven't done that in nearly 40 years!!!

20 years ago my dad had a Lowrance that he had issues with and complained about the customer service from Lowrance, so he switched to Humminbird. I don't know if that issue has gotten any better or about the customer service from any of the fish finder companies.

Any recommendations for a small boat???

I am new to kokanee fishing and have a 15' foot boat. I have the Raymarine "Dragonfly". It works right out of the box and has gps, downscan and traditional fish finder. Very simple controls. I know some of the kayak guys are using it. There are some YouTube videos demoing the unit. The Elite 5 is good, too. Love my unit so far

I will have to agree with 47, I rented a kayak in Hawaii that had the dragonfly with it and was impressed with how well it performed and especially how easy it was to use. you defiantly get the best bang for the buck. it would be one I would check out. dfly
