What's the smallest hook that you have used to effectively catch Kokanee? I found some very small plastics that I want to try using this year and a #4 is just too big. I'm thinking about a #6 or maybe even a #8 to match the size of my presentation.

I use #8 for and #6 hooks routinely. I used only #8's until I started tying rigs with #6 octopus hooks. I would have preferred #8's for the octopus hooks but couldn't find them in a store. They are available online.

Maybe because kokes are slashers rather than eaters I seem to hook more of my hits with bigger hooks - usually a 2 up front with a 4 on the back. Might have to run a test this spring and see if I get more hits on smaller versus larger, and which I hook more on.

I am a fan of larger hooks when they match the lure. In the case of my question, I'm making a ultra small plastic lure that is overwhelmed by #4 or #2 hooks.

I'm also a fan of a larger hook primarily #4 but with some lakes over populated with kokanee producing smaller fish smaller hook will do the job. I quess it the size of the fish that populated the lake you fish. I also been playing with plastic making mesis shrimp patterns and finding the #4 will work just fine. I have been on You Tube a lot studying single hook fly patterns with I had excellent results with last season. One mistake I made doing my mesis shrimp. I left them clear, like they are naturally. I should of colored them.

mrmike, my lure is very much like a Mysis shrimp. Can I see a pic of what you've developed?
