Trying to plan a trip to the snake for some Catfishing. Does anyone have info at all on this subject??? Where, when and what bait is hot. What is a good spot for a family to go and fish from the bank???? Rod and line size and what kind of weight would we need.

If you are after "eater" size, go with a medium action rod with a soft tip (Ugly Stik style) and some good braid, like Fireline. Get a lb test you can cast well. I wouldn't go too heavy as you can't break the lighter stuff anyway.

I'm heading to Huntington and camping up the gravel road that follows the river up to the dam. (Sorry can't think of the road name but somebody here can tell u or in Huntington can tell u). I've been going there my whole life every 4th of july and we always nail em. Use crappie if u can find em.( crappie fishing has been tough as of late). My go to bait is either Mormon cricket and worm or my favorite new bait trout. Believe it or not they love those little mush heads! Tons of bank fishing all over but around Huntington is good and all the way up to the dam. I just got a report today it has been on fire with nothing but 3lb plus being caught. I would recommend find a steep bank drop off that drops to 6-10 ft at the bank and slopes down to a deep drop off. If u have multiple rods hold one in close to the bank with a Bobber and leader that skims the bottom with a worm.(u will likely catch bass and cats). Second rod cast it as far as u can with cut bait. This is wat I do when the wind is too much for my boat and I average 5-10 fish a day. My brother does the same. Hope this helps!

Just a little follow up. I would recheck your Fishing Regulations I think the use of a game fish for bait like crappie and trout you might have a problem with johnny law. Idaho side might be different. Food for thought.

Never had any trouble before. Been doing it 20+ years. But haven't talked to the fuzz around there or checked the regs for a while. That's my bad. Good advice

From wat I see according to odfw u can use them as long as they are dead and cut into pieces. My brother works for odfw and I checking on it for me as we. Will get back to everyone

So here's the run down. U can use crappie whole or not. Doesn't matter. You can use troutbut it must be brought there with u and cut into pieces. Not whole

Well know I know I was told how good crappie was for sturgeon fishing and guy love trout for sturgeon alsotHANK FOR THE HEADS UPS
