What is the most effective speed for spring and early summer kokes? I had a tough evening fishing for kokes under 15' down. I couldn't get my boat to go under 1.9 mph. Didn't get a single hit even though I was seeing TONS of fish.

Thanks!

That is quick usually 1.0 to 1.7 max. sometime, I will pick it up to 2.0,but usually in that range. I have no idea of what kind of kicker you have might think of checking out the pitch on your prop it is usually a easy fix.

Late June through August the 1.8-2.0 I have done really good. I usually dont have time to fish kokes right now so this is somewhat a new game to me. I have an electric that I can use to go slower like for walleye, but I didnt have it charged so I just used my gas. Maybe that was my mistake.

Under 15' on the wire can mean pretty long set backs too. While a lot of early koke season activity can happen at 1.0 - 1.2, I just refuse to go that slow. LOL. I would rather cover a little more ground. I try to stay 1.4 to 1.8 if wind conditions will allow.

I personally like 1.7 if I can get it. I had about 50-60' set back, but nothing seemed to make a difference. I prefer to go a little faster too, to target the more aggressive fish. Maybe the moon had something to do with it too.....

I did see a lot of first year kokes being chased by big predator fish. One big school was right next to the boat being chased. Look like herring being attacked by tuna. Really cool!
